GNN Epi#71 – Dr. Todd Johnson: Results of More than 40 years of Mission Research

An interview done by my friend and Missions Research Scholar – Justin Long (https://www.justinlong.org) Dr Todd Johnson is responsible for the World Christian Database (WCD) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Boston, USA) – I first met Todd in Pasadena, Ca. in 1986 working at the USCWM (Frontier Ventures) – PHD at WCIU (where wife and I received our Masters) – Began working under Dr. David Barrett (foremost researcher on world christianity)(developed together the World Christian Database) – Todd and David publish the much anticipated World Christian Encyclopedia (1982)(3rd Edition) – Todd authored Atlas of Global Christianity (2005) The Atlas of Global Christianity is a thorough visual reference of the changing status of global Christianity over the 100 years since the epoch-making ‘Edinburgh 1910’ World Missionary Conference. It is the first scholarly atlas to depict the 20th century shift of Christianity from the Global North to the Global South. Contextual information on world issues and world religions is included. The atlas is ecumenical in that it covers every Christian tradition including Anglicans, Independents, Marginals, Orthodox, Protestants, and Roman Catholics. This is the first atlas to incorporate historical essays on Christianity 1910-2010 by scholars from each region of the world. Included is a CD that contains all maps and graphs ready for classroom use. – Todd has authored several other scholarly books on the topic of Christianity and Missions not least of which is his new book, “Our Global Families: Christians Embracing Common Identity in a Changing World”.
